Google 'takes majority search share'

24 September 2007

More searches were performed on Google last month than on all the other search engines put together, it has emerged.

In its analysis of August search share, industry assessor comScore reports that Google held a 56.5 per cent stake in the market.

This represents a 1.3 per cent increase from July, with some 5.5 billion search requests being made via Google over the course of the month.

Yahoo! and Microsoft take the second and third places in the table with 23.3 and 11.3 per cent respectively of the total number of searches conducted in August.

However, each showed decreased performance over July figures - with fourth-placed Time Warner, owner of AOL, the only other top five network to gain market share.

But the increase to 441 million searches leaves Time Warner with a single-figure stake of 4.5 per cent.

Google, Yahoo! and AOL all featured in the top ten best-performing locations for advertisements in August, according to recent figures from comScore Media Metrix.
