Spannerworks Team Raises £12,000 For Children’s Home

4 December 2007

Search-led digital marketing agency Spannerworks, an iCrossing company, has raised more than £12,000 for the Amani Children's Home, a residential home for orphans and street children at the base of Mount Kilimanjaro.

The donation was raised through the ‘climb Kili’ project, in which a team of eight Spannerworks employees climbed the famous mountain in Tanzania. The trip was entirely self-funded through sponsorship with all monies raised going to help build a new playground, and assist with Amani’s family reunification programme.

The Spannerworks team would like to thank their main sponsors, who include: BAA, Virgin Holidays, Evans Cycles, Alamo, P&O Ferries, Bowers & Wilkins, Argos, Venture Finance, eSure.com and Insurefor.com. Special thanks go to Antony Bullock of Brighton Company antwords, for such a generous donation.

Those completing the climb included Jonathan Stewart, Tom Morphy, Alex Asigno, and David Coats, all natural search strategists. Tom Kingsley and Will Lockie, account managers, Doug Platts, a natural search analyst and David Hughes, a data strategist.

This is the second time a team from Spannerworks have climbed Kilimanjaro. In 2005, six team members completed the climb, raising over £10,000 towards a new, purpose-built home for Amani.

Valerie Todd, director of the Amani Children’s Home, comments: "Spannerworks' dedicated support of Amani Children's Home over the years has been unparalleled.

"The team's Mt. Kilimanjaro climb will make it possible for Amani to build a playground for the children, who had been living on the streets prior to their arrival at the home. This is a wonderful gift giving the children the chance to play and explore, which is an important part of how Amani restores hope and joy to their lives."

Arjo Ghosh, CEO of Spannerworks, comments: “The ‘climb kili’ team have done Spannerworks proud. Climbing Mt Kilimanjaro is no easy task. It takes planning, time and determination, and these guys have taken on the challenge without hesitation. We would like to thank all our sponsors who have helped to make this ambitious project a reality, and helped the team to beat their donation targets.”

Amani Children's Home is a small non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation based in Kilimanjaro, Tanzania, East Africa. Since its founding by local Tanzanians in 2001, it has rescued over 210 children from the perils of life on the streets, where they face a high risk of HIV transmission and malnutrition.
