In-house placement helps overhaul Halifax Bank of Scotland’s natural search strategy

Halifax case study, iCrossing UK

Client: Halifax (Bank of Scotland)
Services: Natural Search
Territory: UK

Simon Watts, head of marketing - brand, planning & online –for the consumer marketing team at Halifax says:

“Search has been a massive success for us in 2008. We’ve delivered growth way ahead of the competition and smashed our internal targets. There is no doubt in my mind that there were two main drivers of this - establishing a team dedicated to all things search related; and Will working on site with us for the first 4 months. By getting closer to our objectives and the inner workings of our business, Will was able to pinpoint the right strategies and help us to deliver them quickly. It has been a real success story for us, and iCrossing have been instrumental in delivering that success.”

Overview

The redesign of the Halifax and Bank of Scotland websites in 2007 helped to identify a key issue for the bank: that looking after its rankings in natural search results was absolutely crucial for driving traffic – and sales.

So it charged iCrossing, with whom it had been working since 2005, to overhaul its approach and compete harder for high-ranking positions on the major search engines across the full range of its products.
