AOL launches paid search service
10 April 2007
AOL has launched a new paid search service to capitalise on the growing demand in the sector.
The provider will offer a service that will enable advertisers to purchase online graphic ads that appear alongside AOL search engine results. AOL hopes that replacing its current system with Google's AdWords technology will enable the company to target ads more effectively and generate more revenue.
Mike Kelly, president of AOL media networks, said: "Our advertising clients have told us they want the ability to target their search advertising to users of AOL Search and now with AOL Search Marketplace we can offer this service."
He added: "This will let marketers better coordinate their advertising and build greater efficiencies into their campaigns, with AOL."
Testing of the new AOL Search Marketplace has been ongoing for some time with around 30 advertisers taking part in the trial. However, the new system has now been officially launched and it is understood that Google, which owns a five per cent stake in AOL, will still receive a percentage of the advertising revenue.
