Ask launches revamped search engine
5 June 2007
Ask.com has unveiled a reengineered version of its search engine, offering new features and powerful new search technology.
Ask3D replaces the previous version of the search engine and enables users to obtain relevant, customised information, including videos and music clips.
Jim Lanzone, CEO of Ask.com, said that the new search engine was "a complete redefinition of the search experience".
"On average, it takes people four queries to find what they are searching for online. This is because search engines have forced people to wade through endless lists of links, and refine query after query, to find the right information," Mr Lanzone revealed.
The CEO said that the new Ask.com reduces the amount of hunting that is required for internet users to find what they want.
"We do this by delivering the right information, from the deepest range of content, all on one clean and simple page," he explained.
The search engine uses a new algorithmic content-matching and ranking technology called Morph, which selects content from web pages, images, video, music clips and news to create responses to individual queries.
Morph works in conjunction with the search engine's ExpertRank algorithm, which identifies expert communities on the web rather than displaying links by popularity.
Hitwise statistics suggest that Ask commands a five per cent share of the UK's search engine market.
