Google and Yahoo! upgrade photo sharing
28 June 2007
Two of the world's leading search engines, Google and Yahoo!, have improved their online photo offerings, guaranteeing users an even better image experience.
Yahoo! has integrated Flickr hosted images into Yahoo! Image Search, ensuring "the freshest, most relevant content", according to Ujwal Tickoo, senior product manager for Yahoo! Search.
Flickr hosted images will be credited to the photographer and will also link through to other photographs taken by the same person.
Mr Tickoo added: "This integration brings another layer of relevance, freshness and, dare we say, beauty to our Image Search. And it's only the beginning."
Meanwhile, Google has enhanced Picasa Web Albums, allowing users to place their images onto an online map.
They can then share their images with other people on Google Maps or Google Earth.
A mobile version of Picasa Web Albums has also been launched, allowing mobile phone users to view their online Picasa album on their handset and comment on other contacts' images.
