Internet shopping gains 18% on last year
10 December 2007
Christmas shopping on the web has a lead of almost 20 per cent on its 2006 performance, it has emerged.
The amount spent so far by shoppers looking for seasonal gifts on the web is 18 per cent higher than that spent during the corresponding period last year, comScore's figures show.
The digital world analyst has revealed that over $18 billion (£8.9 billion) has been spent so far on the internet between November 1st and December 7th, compared to just over $15 billion last year.
Chairman Gian Fulgoni said: "It was a terrific kick-start to December, but we expect the upcoming week to be the heaviest online spending week of the holiday season as the procrastinators and late-season deal-seekers come out in earnest."
According to the figures, Nintendo's Wii and and Apple's iPod have led the rankings for tech product searches so far, with gaming said to be the category displaying the strongest performance.
Hitwise reported last week that the Wii was the most searched-for product on the web.
