Related sites 'can boost natural search ranking'
6 August 2007
Related sites can boost a website's natural search ranking by identifying targets for incoming links, it has been claimed.
E-consultancy.com chief executive officer Ashley Friedlein notes that related sites - such as those identified by Google - may provide a more reliable means of establishing worthwhile incoming links than the internet does in general.
His comments come in response to the proliferation of linking between social networking sites such as blogs.
"One area where the value is currently most apparent is using network analysis to help optimise your natural search engine rankings," Mr Friedlein writes.
"But what with the internet being so big, and growing so fast, it has been hard to make any practical sense of all the network data available," he adds.
Google states that while its similar pages function returns variable results depending on the size of the page, it "works well for the majority of web pages".
