Search snippet advice
29 November 2007
According to Web Pro News, search snippets are the area where webmasters can exert the most influence over what is displayed about their site.
The website passed on some tips from Google's Matt Cutts on finding out how to manage search snippets to get the best possible results.
Informational queries can be aided by longer snippets and can help with search engine optimisation, while shorter snippets can facilitate navigational queries, it was advised.
If no description is made available by the webmaster, Mr Cutts said that Google takes information from the Open Directory Project.
Additionally, it was remarked that any content that is not desired to be included in the snippet can be excluded through the addition of a nosnippet tag to the HTML.
New comScore figures show that Google was the most visited website in October in the UK.
