SEO 'vital' for online operators
24 August 2007
Investment in search engine optimisation (SEO) campaigns is "vital" as a means of driving traffic to a business website, it is claimed.
The Chartered Institute of Marketing suggests that search engines are now the "near universal" means of finding online content.
As such, the industry body urges investment in SEO campaigns in order to attract visitors other than simple type-in traffic.
Director of research and information David Thorp advises: "If you are looking to attract new customers you need to invest in SEO to drive customers to your website."
"Investment in SEO is vital and without it most businesses will struggle to generate the traffic needed," he adds.
Recent figures from the Federation of Small Businesses show that less than a fifth (18 per cent) of organisations are currently selling online.
Fewer than one in a hundred of these derive all of their profits from the internet, the federation suggests.
