Yahoo! launches targeted ads service
3 July 2007
Search engine Yahoo! has launched its SmartAds service for the targeted delivery of internet commercials, it has emerged.
The company this week announced the availability of online advertisements tailored to personal information submitted by users of the search engine.
Senior vice-president of display marketplaces Todd Teresi claims the new service gives advertisers "the ability to deliver customised marketing messages to consumers and still engage very large audiences with their brand".
Companies wishing to take advantage of the product are told they should prepare a variety of commercials tailored to different demographic groups.
E-Consultancy researcher Graham Charlton explains: "A user searching for a new car in Brighton would be provided with an ad for dealers in the area, alongside a list of cars in stock at the dealer."
He continues that the particular version of advertisement shown may also be varied according to factors such as age and gender.
