Yahoo! releases loading times tool

7 August 2007

Yahoo! has launched a new tool designed to improve the loading time of complex web pages.

YSlow analyses pages and identifies which components are causing the greatest increase in the time taken to view a website, the search engine states.

Webmasters are then given a list of recommendations for ways in which to streamline content in order for it to load faster.

Factors taken into account include total page weight, the size of any associated cookies and any HTTP requests which need to be made.

Yahoo! reports the release in a blog post on its Developer Network website.

Meanwhile, the search engine is currently conducting a survey of attitudes towards advertising on social media sites.

While the majority (55 per cent) of respondents state that they have used social networking sites to promote their services, eight per cent say they feel such techniques are inappropriate.
