YouTube to share ad revenue
31 January 2008
Video sharing site YouTube is to share advertising revenue with its UK contributors, as a US scheme is widened to other countries.
In December, an expansion of YouTube's Partner Program enabled private contributors in the US and Canada to sign up for a share of the income from adverts served with the videos they upload to the site.
Now YouTube has announced that the scheme will be rolled out in other countries, starting with the UK.
"The program has grown significantly since its initial launch, with millions of video views each day earning revenue for our partners," said a post on the YouTube blog. "We look forward to bringing the YouTube Partner Program to more international users in the near future."
UK YouTubers wanting to sign up to the scheme should visit the UK Partner Program website, but anyone looking to make a fortune from their shaky holiday video is in for a disappointment: one of the criteria states that partners must regularly upload videos that attract "thousands of views".
